Thank you for your interest in CASA of Middlesex County! Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2006, that is dedicated to advocate for children who have been abused or neglected and are living in out-of-home placements. To accomplish this mission, CASA of Middlesex County recruits and trains volunteers to advise the courts and to advocate for the children’s best interests.
Last year in Middlesex County about 300 children spent time in foster care. CASA of Middlesex County was able to provide advocacy for 190 of these children as a result of the work of 106 volunteer advocates. Our overarching goal is to increase the number of children served, moving us closer to our aim of providing a CASA advocate for every child who needs one.
CASA volunteers act as the “eyes and ears” of the family court system, providing critical information to help judges make the best decisions for children who have been removed from their biological families due to abuse or neglect. CASA volunteers spend time with the child, and communicate with people involved in the child’s life, including teachers, doctors, family members, and caregivers. CASA volunteers make recommendations to the family court to ensure the best decisions are made on behalf of the child with regard to living arrangements, needed services, education and other critical factors in a child’s life.
CASA receives referrals and the authorization to serve children from the court. CASA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation and gender identity, in the delivery of services.
We are constantly growing and striving to meet the immense needs of children in our county, but it takes the support of the whole community to serve the needs of these children. Please look around our website to see how you might be able to help, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
